In a hurry? Go right to the pictures

Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo is not exactly my kind of movie. I thought Dumb and Dumber was, well, dumb. And I'm not such a fan of producer, Adam Sandler either. But Rob Schneider was the best part of Big Daddy and Judge Dredd so when I saw the trailers for Deuce, my interest was piqued. This is the story of a decidedly ordinary (and lonely, and horny) guy who uses a housesitting opportunity as an opening to embark on a career as a gigolo in what could have been a run-of the-mill wacky comedy but which turns out to be a rather touching romantic comedy instead.

But wait! There's more!

Deuce takes care of fish for a living, but the working conditions are grubby and the pay is shitty. Speaking as someone who spent about thirteen years in the retail pet industry, I can vouch for the truth of this. The scenes of him encountering the "Mongrel Koi" in the garden pond, and whipping his Nitrate test kit vial out of its holster like a gunslinger almost killed me. I know I represent a narrow audience here, but damn that was good. I haven't laughed that hard since the first time I saw Tim Allen's stand-up act...

The clincher is that gigolo Antoine, who owns the apartment Deuce is staying in, is played by the very fine Mr. Oded Fehr.

Who? you ask.

Isreali actor Oded's breakthrough role was playing Ardeth Bay in Stephen Sommers' 1999 The Mummy. He was so captivating, director Sommers spared his character, who was supposed to die, so he could appear in the sequel The Mummy Returns . He is capital-F Fabulous and this movie is one of the last places you can catch his long-haired and bearded look, which he's recently changed.
(This is wrong, just wrong, I tell you, wrong! Please, Mr. Fehr, let it grow back!)

And let's not forget the hilarious Eddie Griffin as TJ. Even the dumb lines come out of this guy funny. Do yourself a favor—if you like TJ, see Double Take, which pairs Eddie brilliantly with fellow funny-guy Orlando Jones, owner of the most expressive eyes in Hollwood!
